Rae Jean Jones Project Accounts, Payroll Administrator

“What you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”

–Jane Goodall

background

Rae Jean was born in Des Moines, Iowa and moved to Sioux City, where she spent a good part of her life.

She has over 32 years of accounting experience, including serving as Deputy Auditor of Woodbury County, Iowa for nearly 10 years.

Rae Jean is a very engaged individual who has held many interesting jobs, including a stint working for a U.S. senator as a liaison for northwestern Iowa and managing a credit union.

She eventually moved to Spokane, Washington to be closer to family and it is now her home.

Rae Jean brings a wealth of administrative experience to Varela through her accounting and payroll responsibilities. She is focused and dedicated to getting her numbers just right — and she certainly does! She also brings a lot of warmth and personality to the office, where she has been a member of the team for over 17 years.

Rae Jean is quick to laugh and is a joy to be around. She is sassy, sweet, and like a second mom to many of us in the office.

interests

Rae Jean enjoys spending time with her family (she has two granddaughters) and has been an active golfer for most of her life.

She is a huge Gonzaga basketball fan and enthusiastically supports both the women’s and the men’s teams. She is a season ticket holder for the GU women’s team and attends as many games as she can.

Rae Jean enjoys reading and her favorite books are “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Don Quixote.” She’s a frequent movie-goer and is the go-to person in the office to ask about what’s current in the theaters.

One of the ways that Rae Jean’s fun personality comes through is her fashion sense. She always wears great shoes — every day it’s something different and fun! She has a wonderful sense of style and typically dresses in bright colors, bold prints, and wears the occasional bedazzled jacket to the office.
