Brian Thompson, EIT Civil Engineer
“I never lose. I either win or learn.”
–Nelson Mandela
background
Brian spent most of his formative years growing up on the west side of Washington State. He jumped into construction right out of high school, building custom decks on existing homes for the better part of a decade. When a work accident nearly cost him his right eye, he immediately pivoted to engineering. Brian earned an associate's degree from Bellevue College and an engineering degree from Gonzaga University. He met his now-wife on Tinder while attending Gonzaga. She is a Spokane native, so he stuck around.
interests
Brian enjoys giving back to the community. Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, he's used his carpentry skills to help build residential homes on three continents.
When he's home, Brian can be found fixing things in his wood shop or house. He spends time thinking about fun projects to work on and recently completed building an electric lumber milling machine.
Hunting combines Brian's hobbies of guns and hiking and gives him quiet time in the woods.
More than anything, though, Brian spends his time with family and friends. He and his wife, Melissa, have a beautiful daughter, Isla, and she is his favorite person in the world. He and his family love to travel, ski, hike, bike -- anything that gets them outdoors. If you ask him, Brian will tell you that the only truly limited resource in this world is time, and he likes to share his time with others.
