Background
Jared was born and raised in Chelan, Washington, where summers on Lake Chelan shaped an early love of the outdoors. Jared grew up in a close-knit family and community alongside his younger brother, older sister, and golden retrievers.
One of Jared’s first jobs was working for his cousin’s construction company building houses around Lake Chelan. He also spent a year as a lifeguard at the local water park, saving lives in four feet of water.
Jared graduated from Chelan High School and then earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at Washington State University. He interned with Varela for six years while a student at WSU and joined the firm full-time after graduating in 2020. While interning he spent several summers as an inspector for utility and roadway construction projects.
Jared is nuke gauge certified and knowledgeable in GIS, Excel, AutoCAD, and modeling sewer systems in SewerCad.
Interests
Jared married his wife, Miranda, in 2022, and the two are happily growing their family. Family is at the center of everything he does, from annual beach camping trips at Lake Roosevelt with his extended family to seasonal outdoor pursuits that include hiking, running, and hunting.
While in high school, Jared traveled to Europe and spent two weeks exploring with friends.
He’s also an adventurous eater and will try just about anything. Ask him about the spreadsheet he built that rates and ranks burgers from Spokane restaurants. His favorite burger is still his own.
Jared can find humor in any situation — no mater how not funny it is. It’s a true gift. Jared’s laugh echoes through the office at random times, causing a ripple effect. Jared lifts the spirits of everyone in the office.
