Background
Daniel grew up in Spokane and earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Washington State University. He's been with the firm since 2005, working in wastewater, drinking water, streets, and stormwater — from planning and design through construction management. As the principal who oversees most of our wastewater projects, he's built strong, lasting relationships with engineers and project managers at the Department of Ecology.
Daniel brings a calm, deliberate presence to every project. He's a thorough thinker, the kind of engineer who considers the whole picture before committing to a decision. His patience and measured approach produce thoughtful and effective strategies. And with seven kids at home, he's had plenty of practice bringing order out of chaos.
Dan’s favorite projects are every pump station where it turned on and pumped right away.
Interests
When Daniel isn’t spending free time being a dad to his five boys and two girls, he enjoys playing guitar, volunteering at his church, and spending time with his extended family. His children are also musically talented and athletic; Dan enjoys playing music and sports with his kids.
The importance of family is a consistent theme in Daniel’s life — he also works with his two brothers, his father, and his oldest son at Varela.
